Abstract

Keterkaitan antara desain permainan dan pemahaman alur cerita dalam genre point and click, sebuah genre yang belakangan menghadapi penurunan popularitas di pasar karena perubahan preferensi pemain modern dan tingginya tingkat frustasi terhadap teka-teki yang kurang intuitif. Studi kasus pada seri Monkey Island dilakukan dengan menggunakan dua metode, pengujian langsung (game testing) terhadap tiga partisipan dan observasi digital melalui enam video analisis narasi. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk mengukur tingkat kesulitan dan seberapa efektif narasi dapat tersampaikan. Hasil asesmen menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden (61,5%) mengategorikan permainan ini sebagai "Mudah". Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa instruksi eksplisit sangat efektif dalam memfasilitasi pemahaman narasi yang tinggi. Sebaliknya, pada kategori "Sulit" (8,7%), tingkat kesulitan yang lebih tinggi menuntut upaya kognitif yang besar. Desain lingkungan yang buruk dan minimnya petunjuk spasial memicu kelelahan kognitif, yang pada akhirnya merusak imersi naratif dan menggantinya dengan frustrasi mekanis. Kesenangan dan pemahaman cerita dalam sebuah game berbasis narasi sangat bergantung pada mekanisme permainannya sebagai fondasi utama. Bahkan potensi cerita yang kaya akan sia-sia jika sistem pendukungnya tidak intuitif. Analisis terhadap Return to Monkey Island menunjukkan korelasi langsung antara kejelasan desain instruksional dengan pemahaman alur cerita pemain.
