Film Kim Ji Young, Born 1982 merupakan representasi sinematik yang mengangkat isu diskriminasi gender dan represi terhadap perempuan dalam struktur budaya patriarki yang kental. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membongkar dan menganalisis tanda-tanda diskriminasi gender yang terdapat dalam film tersebut melalui perspektif semiotika Roland Barthes. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan fokus analisis pada signifikasi dua tahap (two-order of signification), yaitu denotasi, konotasi, serta kemunculan mitos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diskriminasi gender ditampilkan secara konsisten melalui adegan-adegan yang merepresentasikan marjinalisasi perempuan di ranah domestik, pembatasan karier (glass ceiling), dan beban mental (mental load) akibat ekspektasi sosial. Melalui analisis konotasi, ditemukan bahwa setiap tindakan karakter utama mengandung pesan mengenai hilangnya identitas diri perempuan setelah menikah. Pada level mitos, film ini mengkritik mitos "Ibu Sempurna" dan "Kodrat Perempuan" yang selama ini digunakan untuk melegitimasi ketidakadilan gender. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa media film berfungsi sebagai alat kritik sosial yang kuat untuk mengungkap ideologi patriarki yang tersembunyi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
